Gary Lineker full of praise for Wenger’s bold FA Cup final decision

Arsenal crushed Aston Villa 4-0 in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

BBC pundit Gary Lineker took to social networking site Twitter in order to praise Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger on selecting striker Theo Walcott to start the FA Cup final.

The Gunners headed into the encounter at Wembley coming off the back of an impressive 4-1 season-ending victory over West Bromwich Albion.

England international Theo Walcott bagged a hat-trick that game, but a large chunk of the Gunners’ success throughout 2015 has come as a result of Olivier Giroud’s presence up top.

The French international spearheads the North Londoners’ fluid style and his link-up play with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and star player Alexis Sanchez is nothing short of superb.

However, Wenger opted to start the in-form Walcott over Giroud in the central attacking role, and Lineker praised the bold move after the former Southampton youngster opened the scoring in stunning fashion.

Walcott undoubtedly made his presence felt at Wembley, but his impact down the middle is still questionable and he looked a much bigger threat when moved out to the left.

Alexis Sanchez took up a free central role just before half-time, and it was his magical goal minutes after the interval that ultimately put the game beyond a struggling Villa side.

Per Mertesacker and late substitute Olivier Giroud added further goals as Arsene Wenger’s side recorded back-to-back FA Cup successes, with the 4-0 score-line being the biggest posted for over 20 years.
