Arsenal-linked Marco Verratti top midfielder in Ligue 1 this season

Marco Verratti unveiled by PSG

Marco Verratti was outstanding for PSG this season as they won their third consecutive title.

Ligue 1 can boast some excellent midfield talent. You only have to look at the national team to see the likes of Blaise Matuidi and Geoffrey Kondogbia to get an idea of the talent in France. However, it is the Arsenal-linked - per the Express - maestro Marco Verratti that leads the way in Ligue 1 this season.

#5 Bernardo Silva: AS Monaco

Arsenal found out exactly what the little Portuguese midfielder can do when he set up Monaco's third goal at the Emirates this season.

Wonderfully balanced, with a dangerous left-foot, his performances helped secure a €15 million permanent move from Benfica.

#4 Blaise Matuidi: Paris Saint-Germain

After a slow start to the campaign, caused by the summer's World Cup, Blaise Matuidi slowly improved and once again showed his superb ability.

His amazing engine is what pushes PSG forward and without his darting runs, they would often struggle to break teams down.

#3 Corentin Tolisso: Olympique Lyonnais

If Maxime Gonalons was the protector of the defence, and Nabil Fekir the creative force, Corentin Tolisso was the player that brought it all together.

He was constantly on the ball, looking to create chances, or developing his own game going forward. Defensively sound, he showed great versatility and promise in the heart of Lyon's title push.

#2 Dimitri Payet: Olympique de Marseille

Even though Marseille suffered some ups and downs this season, the creative play of Dimitri Payet was constant.

The France international finished with 16 assists and was deadly from both open play or set-pieces.

It was by far his most consistent season to date, the test now is to see if he can replicate his achievements when it all kicks off again in August.

#1 Marco Verratti: Paris Saint-Germain

The young Italian midfielder has come on leaps and bounds this season. He has taken control of the PSG midfield and made it his.

Tenacious and unforgiving when working to win the ball back, he then adds class in possession and the ability to pick out a teammate with a stunning over the top pass.

He will go on to become one of the best midfielders in world football.
