Tottenham fans have expressed their pleasure at the signing of Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer.
The 22-year-old centre-back is seen as a bright prospect, having been capped at international level by Austria, and with over 70 appearances to his name with FC Koln in the Bundesliga. The youngster made 34 appearances for the club this season, helping Koln to safety at the heart of a defence that conceded just 40 goals in 34 games.
He is the first signing Spurs have completed this summer, and it is expected that the Lilywhites will complete a lot more business ahead of next season. There are some major improvements needed in their squad, but the move for Wimmer is a positive one. The defensive positions are ones that need revamping at White Hart Lane, and head coach Mauricio Pochettino has taken one step on the path to fixing the main issue.
Upon completing the transfer, Wimmer told the Express: “Tottenham is a huge chance for me. Nonetheless, it won't be easy saying good bye to Cologne. I want to thank the training staff, my team-mates, and all those involved in the club for their extraordinary support.”
Despite being young and having no experience of English football, many Spurs fans are excited by the signing of Wimmer, and what it has said about the new transfer policy Tottenham are utilising.

Pleased with Wimmer signing. Early window signings are always better. Young guy with decent stats from a good league. #thfc— Matt Niner (@WordsFromNiner) May 29, 2015
