Top Five: Best ever FA Cup Final goals - featuring Liverpool and Nottingham Forest

FA Cup

Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest have all scored famous FA Cup Final goals.

Roberto Di Matteo celebrates his birthday today, with the former Chelsea man turning 44.

The Italian international is best remembered for his time with Chelsea, winning two FA Cups, a League Cup, Charity Shield, Cup Winners’ Cup and Super Cup with the club.

He also managed them to FA Cup and Champions League success, but was recently dismissed from his role as head coach of German club Schalke 04.

However, it is that first FA Cup success that Di Matteo is best known for, with his pile-driver of a shot hitting the back of the net inside the opening minute, ending the game as a contest before it had begun.

It was a fantastic goal, and one deserving of any cup final, before Eddie Newton added a second late on to secure the victory.

It was Chelsea’s first trophy since the 1970’s and is really the start of the era of dominance that followed afterwards - all starting with Di Matteo’s wonderful goal.

To celebrate the Italian legend’s birthday, we take a look at five of the best FA Cup Final goals.
