Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has told The Independent the club must hang onto record signing Angel di Maria.
The Argentine international did not live up to his price tag, and ended the season out of Louis van Gaal's first choice XI despite a promising start.
Di Maria has been linked with moves to both PSG and Bayern Munich, reported The Mirror, with The Mail claiming United will let him leave if he really wants out after just one season, and the offer is right.
Scholes believes United must hang onto the winger, despite naming him as his biggest disappointment of the season alongside Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.
He said: "The quality is there and I don’t think United can afford to lose him. They need that kind of player if they are to compete at the highest level in the Champions League. Let’s see what next season brings."
United have already signed Memphis Depay, who will add to the competition on the flanks, but if they are to improve, he needs to be a complement to Di Maria rather than a replacement, even the Dutchman produces better performances.
Despite his detractors, Di Maria still provided the joint-third highest number of assists in the Premier League this season with 10.

This is twice the number Mesut Ozil managed, more than player of the year Eden Hazard, and nominee Coutinho.
Di Maria may have seen his form trail off at the end of the season, but if this is the production he can deliver in a poor season, it's all the more reason to keep him around and get him firing on all cylinders.
