Southampton fans react on Twitter to Liverpool's Clyne offer

Southampton fans have ridiculed Liverpool's offer for Nathaniel Clyne.

Southampton fans have reacted with incredulity at Liverpool's latest offer for one of their star players.

The BBC reported the Reds had an offer rejected of £10 million for Clyne, as they search for a replacement for Glen Johnson, who will leave as a free agent this summer.

Clyne has established himself as England's first choice right-back over the past year, a position once occupied by Johnson.

The defender has been a key part of Southampton's impressive season, while Liverpool's lack of cohesion in defence was badly exposed in the final two games of the campaign as they shipped nine goals to Crystal Palace and Stoke City.

Their interest is logical, but the fee has been described as 'insulting' by Southampton fans, with The Metro connecting him with a £18 million switch to Manchester United just 24 hours earlier.

Liverpool bought three players from Southampton last season, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, and Rickie Lambert, and not a single one of them worked out as successes.

There is still a chance Clyne would have more luck, but Liverpool will clearly have to up their offer if they are to be taken seriously.

Here is a look at how Saints fans responded to news of Liverpool's latest bid...
