Speaking to SoccerNews in the Netherlands, 23-year-old playmaker Clasie admitted that he is open to a transfer this summer, as long as it is the right move away from Feyenoord.
The young midfielder said: “I’ve said it before: Everything has to be right for such a transfer, but if there is something beautiful, I'm open to it.”
These are pleasing comments for Southampton fans, with Clasie most likely linked with a move to the South Coast this summer.
The Star have recently reported that it will cost the Saints £12.7 million to sign Clasie should they make an approach for him this summer, and the comments suggest that he is definitely open to a move.
The young Dutch international is known to be something of a favourite of Ronald Koeman, with the now Southampton manager coaching him for three years at Feyenoord. Clasie has only ever commented on a potential exit since Koeman left the club, and there is a real desire to work under the 52-year-old again.
The 11-capped international has made 46 appearances for Feyenoord this summer, scoring two goals and registering five assists.
Regarded as one of the brightest talents in Dutch football, it is expected that Clasie will enjoy a long and successful career at both club and international level, and Southampton would be completing a fantastic deal if they were to wrap up his signing this summer.
