Benteke is Villa’s in form attacking player ahead of the FA Cup final and a forward who wouldn’t look out of fit and some of the other big teams in the Premier League.
The Daily Telegraph has reported that the player has a buy-out clause of £32.5 million, but Parlour has suggested that the Belgian may be content with his current situation at Villa Park.
“You don’t want to hear that (as an Aston Villa fan) – Sherwood has done well to get the best out of Benteke,” he said.
“At the time he came in he couldn’t score a goal, he wasn’t even getting close to scoring a goal – It will be interesting to see what he does because he might be excited about Tim Sherwood next year.”
Sherwood made simple changes to the Villa attack when he linked up with the club, which were based around getting the ball into Benteke as quickly as possible.
He built the attacking emphasis around the Belgian, effectively making him the main man and giving him a confidence, which he wasn’t able to experience with Paul Lambert as manager.
There could be some big offers coming in for him, but if Sherwood can convince Benteke that he’s the right man to help him develop even further, it could be very difficult for another team to come in and complete a deal.
For now his main focus is going to be on powering Villa to FA Cup glory, which will only strengthen the club’s chances of keeping him.
