The Gunners striker scored a late equaliser against Morocco in the Toulon tournament.

Of the next generation of Arsenal youngsters making their way towards Arsene Wenger’s first team, Chuba Akpom is arguably the most promising.

The sprightly attacker has progressed through the Gunners ranks and will hope to play a part in the senior side next season.

The 19-year-old pushed his case for Premier League football forward with a goal for England under-20’s in the Toulon tournament opener against their Moroccan equivalents.

Having been reduced to ten men, Aidy Boothroyd’s side looked to be heading for a defeat, but substitute Akpom came off the bench to score the equaliser three minutes from full time.

The striker is yet to score a goal in senior football either for Arsenal or on loan spells at Brentford, Coventry or Nottingham Forest, but has an excellent record at England age-grade level.

Akpom’s task of breaking into Arsenal’s first team is an unenviable one and it is likely that the youngster will need to spend next season out on loan again elsewhere.

However, should he continue to hit the net for England at youth level, he will keep his name in the headlines and put his hand up for club inclusion.
