The Liverpool legend wants more personalities and characters in the side.
Liverpool legend Jan Molby claims this summer is the biggest the club have ever faced following a disappointing 2014/15 season which saw the trophy cabinet left empty once again, and the side missing out on Champions League football by finishing sixth in the Premier League.
Molby did say that it is too early to judge some of the players who arrived at the club last summer - when the Reds brought in nine players for in excess of £100 million.
Some of the new recruits have shown flashes of quality but among them there have been flops who haven't lived up to their price-tag.
In his Liverpool Echo column, Molby has called for more presence and character in the dressing room.
The Dane said: "It’s about more than ability, we’re lacking more than that, It’s a lack of personalities, a lack of characters and a lack of strength – both physical and mental.
"It’s the end of a really disappointing season for Liverpool. The reality is we didn’t deserve to finish any higher than sixth. I look at our performances over the past nine months and that’s about right. We can have no complaints.
"Life without Luis Suarez was always going to be tough but after all the investment in signings last summer we all expected more. It’s too early to judge some of those new players but the majority haven’t given the club much of a return on the fees paid for them."
Naturally, Liverpool fans will be hoping that a lot of the 2014 purchases come good next season, but if the rumour mill is anything to go by, it is going to be another busy summer of transfer activity at Anfield, with several departures expected, and there is a desperate need for fresh talent at the club, while there is an appetite for well-known, more experienced players to come in as well.
It is a big job for Brendan Rodgers to oversee next season, who seems to be primed for another season in the role after a disappointing campaign following last term's title challenge. It also seems that business is trying to be done early, but fans are wary of who is coming to the club this summer given the transfer strategy and infamous committee behind the scenes.
A full-back, striker and big midfield presence seem essential, and the minimum requirements going forward.
