Are Liverpool and QPR preparing for this unlikely striker swap?

The Reds are said to be interested in Charlie Austin, and will be hoping that QPR's interest in one of their forwards will encourage a deal.

The Standard are reporting that Liverpool and QPR may be considering somewhat of a striker exchange this summer.

Liverpool are said to be looking to bring in Hoops hotshot Charlie Austin to bolster the club's disappointing forward ranks.

The 25-year-old has scored an impressive 18 goals this season, making him the second highest English scorer and fourth overall - particularly impressive considering QPR propped up the division.

And in order to encourage a deal, the Reds are open to Rickie Lambert moving the other way.

Lambert has disappointed since returning to his boyhood club last summer after a journeyman route through the lower leagues.

Despite his struggles at Anfield this year, the 33-year-old has proved that he has attacking qualities when given regular starts, having shone at Southampton at both Championship and Premier League level before his move to Anfield.

Though Chris Ramsey would prefer to have Austin lead his line next season, the Standard are reporting that the former Spurs coach is preparing for life without his star striker. QPR will certainly feel that Lambert has something to offer what will likely be a competitive Hoops side next season in the second tier, even though the England striker is moving into his mid-30s.
