Report: West Brom enter race for out-of-contract Manchester City defender Micah Richards

West Brom are keen on signing Richards, along with Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham United.

As reported by the Express and Star, West Brom have become that latest in the long line on teams keen on signing Manchester City’s Micah Richards, who is out-of-contract this summer.

The Daily Star has previously reported on interest from Villa, Newcastle and West Ham, and now the Baggies are also expressing an interest in the 26-year-old, who is keen on a Premier League transfer to resurrect his ailing career.

At one time, Richards was considered one of the brightest talents in English football, and he was a consistent fixture in both the City team and England’s senior international squad.

However, his career has somewhat stalled in recent years, with Manuel Pellegrini not favouring him at the Etihad, leading to a loan move to Fiorentina this term.

He has struggled to establish himself in Vincenzo Montella’s first-team, making just 20 appearances this season, and he is keen on a transfer that will allow him to secure first-team football.

Available on a free transfer, and with a wealth of Premier League experience to his name, Richards would be a fantastic signing for whichever club can secure his signature.

There may be fitness problems with Richards, having played little football over the past few years, but that is nothing that a solid pre-season will not fix.

Able to play at right-back, as well as in the centre of defence, Richards has the potential to be an outstanding player, and the Baggies face stiff competition if they intend to submit a formal approach for the talented defender.
