According to the Mirror, Andre Wisdom will get the chance to impress in the Liverpool first-team next season despite losing his starting role for West Bromwich Albion while on loan.
The 22-year-old signed a new long-term deal with the club earlier in the month, as reported by the BBC, and now the Mirror are reporting that Brendan Rodgers is ready to throw him straight into the Reds side.
The report states that Wisdom will be given a chance to link up with the Reds this summer and push hard for a regular role at right-back in Rodgers’s starting XI.
Can Andre Wisdom become Liverpool’s first choice right-back?
After a slightly disappointing loan spell at West Brom, which saw him lose his place once Tony Pulis was made manager, there were few critics that would have backed the club to give him a new contract.
The Leeds-born defender, who impressed in the Championship while on loan at Derby County, was considered likely to become one of the causalities at Anfield as Rodgers would look to invest in his side in order to bring in the quality needed for a Premier League title push.
Although Wisdom may struggle to get in at right-back, especially if Rodgers intends on sticking with a 3-5-2 formation, he could look to earn a spot as the right-sided centre back in a defensive three.
He is a strong, athletic defender who is commanding in one-on-one situations, but lacks the pace and drive to offer an outlet in attack. However, at centre back, he can use his strength, aerial ability and power to a much greater effect.
At right-back, as proven during his time at West Brom, he could struggle to reach the standard as a top Premier League player, but at centre back he could still have a chance.
