The Dutchman has returned to his former club from Willem II.
It would appear that Celtic have indeed lost out in their pursuit of Dutch left-back Mitchell Dijks, as the news was broken last night that Ajax had finalised a move for the Willem II full-back to return to Amsterdam this summer.
It was confirmed by De Telegraaf yesterday that the deal was all set to go ahead.
Dijks had also been heavily linked with a move to Dutch side Feyenoord - but both the Rotterdam club and Celtic will now have to consider different options.
It was first reported that Celtic were keen on the player at the start of the month. The Scotsman reported that Dijks was a £900k target for the club.
The player himself even stated that Celtic had been in contact over a potential deal.
But now it seems that Dijks will return to Ajax, with whom he played six games between 2012 and 2014, in a deal rumoured to be in the region of 1 million euros.
Celtic will now be hoping for better luck in their other pursuits in this summer's transfer window, as they look to defend their Scottish Premiership title.
