Newcastle set to release survival hero Gutierrez

HITC Sport understands Newcastle are to release Jonas Gutierrez among others when they announce their retained list.

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Newcastle are to announce their retained list in the next 24 hours, with Jonas Gutierrez set to be released despite helping the club secure Premier League survival.

Gutierrez scored the crucial second goal in Sunday's win over West Ham to help Newcastle preserve their Premier League status on the final day of the season.

The Argentine has been an inspirational figure for Newcastle after battling to overcome cancer, but he is set to leave when his contract expires next month.

The 31-year-old seems set to move on this summer to end his seven-year spell on Tyneside after joining from Real Mallorca in 2008.

Utility man Ryan Taylor will also not be offered a new deal when his contract expires after an injury-hit six-years at St James' Park.

Sammy Ameobi is also out of contract next month, but Newcastle have not given up hope of keeping the winger.

Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick, who made his debut this season after injuries to Tim Krul and Rob Elliot, will move on as will young defensive duo Remie Streete and Lubo Satka and striker Adam Campbell at the end of their deals.
