The reported Tottenham Hotspur target’s statistics while at Burnley have been quite phenomenal.

According to the Daily Mail (among other outlets), Burnley’s Kieran Trippier is a £3.5 million target for Tottenham.

Immediate reaction might focus on a lack of ambition. Trippier is no Phillip Lahm, he isn’t a World Cup winner, nor is he a Champions League full-back.

But a closer look at the proposed move makes a lot of sense. What the 24-year-old is is a quality right-back, one who has proven himself equally as well in the Premier League for Burnley as he did in the Championship.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are struggling at right-back – let’s face it. Mauricio Pochettino does not appear to feel DeAndre Yedlin is ready for the first team, while Kyle Walker has been in woeful form this past year.

Any Trippier move, then, could be the perfect fit. Especially if his season statistics are anything to go by…

Andros Townsend1117751

As Opta stats show, the most striking fact about the Burnley defender’s season is his rate of accurate crosses provided. His nearest rival in that department in a Spurs shirt is Christian Eriksen – a whole 59 crosses behind him.

Andros Townsend, meanwhile, completed a whole EIGHTY crosses less than Trippier last term. He played far less but the ratio of crosses per game still doesn’t add up.

Nacer Chadli41352,415

Only Eriksen created more chances than Trippier last campaign, meanwhile, with Erik Lamela only just behind due to having played less game time. Trippier is still far ahead of Nacer Chadli, however, and even further ahead of any other Tottenham players.

Tackle-wise, the Burnley full-back again impresses, with only Danny Rose winning more tackles than him. Trippier, notably, won more than Tottenham’s most senior centre-back in Jan Vertonghen – and could still have had more even had they played the same number of minutes, based on his ratio.

Finally, the 24-year-old won more interceptions than any other Spurs player last season, too. Again, he was helped by the amount of minutes he played. He still had to go out there and deliver, however, while playing every Premier League game of the season simply means he is perfect for Pochettino’s high-tempo game, as his fitness levels will be sky-high.

Statistics aren’t everything, of course, (as a look at Andre Villas-Boas’ career will tell you) but all the numbers certainly work in Trippier’s favour…
