Celtic fans react on Twitter to Stephen McManus's performance v Rangers

The ex-Celtic captain scored for Motherwell during their Scottish Premiership play-off final against Rangers.

Once a Celtic captain, always a Celtic captain. That's what supporters of the Scottish champions have been tweeting about Motherwell centre-back Stephen McManus after Thursday night's game against Rangers.

Indeed, the 32-year-old netted against the Gers during the Scottish Premiership play-off final first leg as Motherwell won 3-1 at Ibrox.

Things didn't quite go to plan for Stuart McCall as Rangers found themselves 3-0 down within 47 minutes and a late goal may have given them some hope. But that hope is slim ahead of the second leg and Celtic fans have been basking in the glory of their ex-skipper scoring against their fierce rivals.

Rangers had looked strong going into the play-off final after successfully navigating four other play-off games. But Motherwell looked determined not to be playing Scottish Championship football next season and McManus and co delivered to put them firmly in the driving seat ahead of the reverse fixture.

While Rangers fans may be fearing the worst, Celtic fans appear to be looking forward to the prospect of another season without facing Rangers in the league. Here's how they reacted to McManus's performance on Twitter:
