Celtic boost as Rafael van der Vaart's agent confirms he is not joining Ajax

The Hamburg SV midfielder will not be returning to Amsterdam this summer.

This week Celtic received a boost in their apparent pursuit of former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart.

The Holland star has been linked with a move to former club Ajax recently, but that deal no longer appears to be on the table.

His agent Robert Geerlings confirmed to Dutch magazine Voetbal International:

"Rafael has yet to decide his future. Ajax have waited long enough and it's courtesy that we inform the club,"

Last month it was reported by The Scotsman that Celtic were keen on the signature of former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rafael van der Vaart. The Dutchman has made his intention to leave Hamburg SV in the summer clear and that has alerted the attention of several clubs across Europe, including Celtic.

RVDV, something of a cult hero at Tottenham, has over 100 caps for the Dutch national team and has also played for the likes of Ajax and Real Madrid - so he would undoubtedly be an incredible signing from The Bhoys.

Before he makes a move anywhere he must first attempt to keep Hamburg in the German top-flight for a second year in a row.

Hamburg face 2.Bundesliga side Karlsruher SC in the promotion-relegation play-off first leg this evening.
