Preston North End defender David Buchanan has left Deepdale to join Northampton Town.
Buchanan's deal at Preston expired this summer and the club informed him that he would not be getting a new contract.
The 29-year-old made 25 appearances for Preston this season, but did not feature since January due to the form of Scott Laird and with the club winning promotion to the Championship via a play-off final victory at Wembley over Swindon Town, they have decided to let Buchanan move on.
The news of Buchanan's availability alerted a host of clubs, but Northampton have moved quickly to agree a deal for the talented left-back.
Northampton boss Chris Wilder is keen to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion from League Two next season and he sees Buchanan as a key addition.
Former Northern Ireland U21 international Buchanan made 89 appearances for Preston during his three-year stay at the club after joining from Tranmere Rovers.
