West Brom should move for Everton's Luke Garbutt this summer, who is available on a free transfer

West Brom

West Brom are in need of a left-back this summer, and Luke Garbutt is set to leave Everton.

The Baggies have struggled in the left-back position this term, with Tony Pulis frequently changing things around to find his best fix, but it is clear that they will be targeting a natural defender this summer.

Sebastien Pocognoli is clearly out of favour under Pulis, leaving him to utilise both Joleon Lescott and Chris Brunt out of position. Both performed to the best of their abilities, but it proved that a left-back would be needed in the transfer market.

There are few top quality left-backs available on the market as of now, and West Brom are hardly a club with the reputation to draw the best players to them.

However, there is one Premier League defender who is available for free this summer, and could be the perfect long-term fix for the tactical issue at the Hawthorns.

Everton youngster Luke Garbutt is set to leave Goodison Park this summer, despite being a highly rated prospect, who has 68 competitive appearances to his name despite being just 22.

He is said to be out of favour under Roberto Martinez, despite his impressive potential, and he is out of contract this summer with no apparent renewal on the cards. The Mirror have reported that Bournemouth and Swansea have opened talks with him to sign on a free transfer, and West Brom should seriously consider signing him as well.

He is an attacking full-back, who has shown exceptional ball control and great physicality, whilst his ability to also play across the centre of defence is a valued quality for a club running on a tight budget.

He has proven his attacking ability on many occasions, making him the perfect player for a Tony Pulis orientated tactical set-up, and being his young age, he still has a wealth of development before he reaches his potential.

Best of all for the Baggies, Garbutt is available for free, and has proven himself in the Premier League.

It was a surprise to see Everton not renew his contract, but their loss can be West Brom’s gain, and Pulis should be doing all he can to move for the young full-back in the coming weeks.
