Top Five: Never-ending transfer sagas - featuring Tottenham and Manchester United

Manchester United 3

Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea all feature in our never-ending transfer sagas.

The transfer window is just around the corner, and clubs have already started singing players ahead of next season.

Big names are moving to big clubs, and there are bound to be some earth shattering transfers that take place and change the status of football for the next campaign.

However, on top of all these fresh transfer stories and rumours there are the selection of players who are continuously linked with the same clubs, year after year.

Another story like this has come out today, with the Daily Star reporting that Manchester United have agreed a deal for Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan.

This is the same Gaitan who signed for United in 2012, and then in 2013 - and probably will next summer as well.

To celebrate the starting of silly season, we take a look at five other never-ending transfer sagas.

Wesley Sneijder to Manchester United

The ultimate ongoing transfer saga is that involving Wesley Sneijder to United, who has reportedly agreed a deal every season since about 2010. Despite being way past his best now, and likely unable to get into the Red Devils team, expect the rumour to be back this summer - especially with Louis van goal in charge.

Hulk to Tottenham Hotspur

Another longstanding rumour that has existed for the past couple of years, Spurs have been in a battle with Chelsea for Hulk, although no deal has yet to come around. This is despite him leaving Porto to sign for Zenit in 2012, and having never impressed against English opposition in European competitions.

Andriy Yarmolenko to Tottenham Hotspur

This deal is sure to surface again this summer, but it could actually come around - finally. Dynamo Kyiv winger Yarmolenko is still just 25-years-old, and looks to have outgrown his time in the Ukraine. Spurs may have wanted to sign him for the last three years, but they might finally get their man this summer.

Edinson Cavani to Arsenal

This looks like it will never happen, despite Arsenal still needing a truly top class forward. Cavani has long been a target for the Premier League’s giants, with the Gunners leading the way for his signature. However, no deal has ever come around, including when he swapped Napoli for PSG, and he is sure to choose a different club if he leaves France this summer.

Radamel Falcao to Chelsea

Despite Falcao having failed in term Premier League this season, Chelsea are supposedly keen on signing him again this summer. Linked with the Blues ever since his time at Atletico Madrid, he has chosen moves to Monaco and Manchester United ahead of Stamford Bridge, and this rumour is sure to run on for a long, long time.
