Alexandre Lacazette scored 27 goals as Lyon finished second in Ligue 1
It has been another fantastic season in Ligue 1. Until the last few months we even had a title race on our hands. Paris Saint-Germain were crowned champions for the third consecutive season, but only three players make this Team of the Year.
Linked with moves to Arsenal and Manchester United this summer by the London Evening Standard and Metro respectively, Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette spearheads the attack after scoring 27 goals this season.
GK: Anthony Lopes: Olympique Lyonnais
Lopes has enjoyed an unbelievable season for a young goalkeeper. More than just a spectator, Lopes made crucial saves at very important times. Huge future ahead.
RB: Christophe Jallet: Olympique Lyonnais
Jallet was rejuvenated by his move from PSG in the summer. His form for Lyon has won him back a place in the France national team.
CB: Loic Perrin: Saint-Étienne
After missing out on a place at the World Cup, Perrin went on to have a great season and helped Saint-Etienne create one of the best defences in Ligue 1
CB: Samuel Umtiti: Olympique Lyonnais
The 21-year-old defender is experienced beyond his years. Umtiti has helped build the foundation for Lyon’s success. Great in the air and smart on the ground. Should be a France international.
LB: Maxwell: Paris Saint-Germain
Maxwell is defying the years once again. The Brazilian just keeps on going. Solid defensively, but an asset going forward.
CM: Corentin Tolisso: Olympique Lyonnais
Wasn’t meant to be a first-team player this season, but given his opportunity he hasn’t looked back. Versatile and intelligent. Great with the ball at his feet.
CM: Marco Verratti: Paris Saint-Germain
The Italian has easily been PSG's best player this season. Tenacious as ever, but has developed touches of class in big games. So important to this team at such a young age.
CM: Javier Pastore: Paris Saint-Germain
Ended the season like the player everyone hoped he would be. Classy, skilful and a key component in PSG's title win. If he can do it with more consistency, there is no limit to what he can achieve.
AM: Dimitri Payet: Olympique de Marseille
Under Marcelo Bielsa, Payet has been outstanding. His 16 assists leads the league and kept Marseille in with a chance of Champions League football up to the last day.
CF: Andre-Pierre Gignac: Olympique de Marseille
He couldn't keep the pace that he started the season with, but 21 goals in a season is his best return for Marseille and deserves a place in this team.
CF: Alexandre Lacazette: Olympique Lyonnais
Just an incredible season. After scoring 15 goals last season, it was unclear if he could get better. In nearly doubling that tally he has become one of the most sought after players in Europe.
