West Ham United have confirmed they are searching for a new manager this summer, with Sam Allardyce set to leave when his contract expires.
Two names that have been heavily linked with the role in the past few days are Roberto Di Matteo and Slaven Bilic.
Bilic, who is leaving Besiktas this summer, is a former West Ham player with success at international level with the Croatia team. Di Matteo is of course well known for his managerial heroics with Chelsea. He parted company with Schalke 04 this week after a drop in form toward the end of the Bundesliga season saw the club finish sixth.
Interestingly, a new twist in the manager pursuit has now emerged from Di Matteo's Bundesliga departure.
Reports in Turkey are now linking Bilic with the Schalke job.
Haber8 are claiming that Schalke are now keen on the Croatian as their new boss. Bilic knows the German game from his time as a player. He spent three years with Karlsruher before heading to English football.
It seems that with one managerial target becoming open for West Ham another has become all the more desirable elsewhere.
