Report: Manchester United agree deal for Nicolas Gaitan

A Portuguese newspaper has suggested that Manchester United have agreed a deal for Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola has reported that Manchester United have secured a deal for Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan.

The transfer is thought to be worth €30 million and if it’s confirmed by United, the midfielder will become the second signing manager Louis van Gaal has made ahead of the official opening of the transfer window, following an agreement over PSV Eindhoven’s Memphis Depay.

Gaitan is a player some United fans will be very familiar with as he has been linked with United for a number of years, with the Daily Telegraph among the sources to report the clubs interest all the way back in 2012.

Gaitan is an extremely forward thinking and attacking midfield who van Gaal could use in behind his main striker or strikers, as he looks to revitalise the team’s attack and push United closer towards a challenge for the title next season.

His arrival would not just give the Dutchman a fresh option, but would take some of the pressure away from the likes of Juan Mata and Ander Herrera who have both been used in the number ten role this season.
