The French international wants to leave for Champions League football.
Southampton have a big summer ahead of them if they are to continue to improve on what was a very good season under Ronald Koeman.
That means it is vital they hold on to as many of their star players as possible, avoiding a repeat of last summer's mass exodus.
One player that does seem to be on his way however is Morgan Schneiderlin. The French international insisted he wants Champions League football next term. That rules out moves to both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, who have been linked with his signature.
Manchester United and Arsenal now appear to be popular potential destinations.
However, another party has emerged, who have something Southampton want.
The team in question is Atletico Madrid. The Spanish side, who have just finished third in La Liga, will be playing in the Champions League next season and according to Tutto Mercato Web are keen on the Southampton dynamo.
While Southampton are obviously reluctant to sell, they desperately want to keep hold of centre-back Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgian is currently on loan from Atletico and has had an excellent 2014-15. The TMW report claims that Atleti are willing to offer the centre-back as part of any deal for Schneiderlin.
Cash and Alderweireld? That might be enough to sway The Saints.
