Has Arturo Vidal really decided to move to Arsenal? A look at how the rumours began

Arturo Vidal has been linked with a move to Arsenal, but will it really happen?

Over the last few days speculation has increased that Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal is closing in on a surprise move to Arsenal.

The Metro was one of several outlets in the UK to report Arsene Wenger's side hoped to conclude a deal for the Chilean international.

SkyBet slashed odds on the Gunners being Vidal's next club to just 9/4, with him 1/3 to stay at Juventus.

The claims originated through an Argentine journalist named Hernan Feler, who works for DIRECTV Sports, and has 111,000 followers on Twitter.

Feler tweeted that an agreement in in place for him to link up with international teammate Alexis Sanchez at the Gunners, but a deal will only be announced after this summer's Copa America tournament.

His claim has gone global, and is not a distraction Vidal will have wanted ahead of the upcoming Champions League Final against Barcelona.

Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta told Tuttomercatoweb at the weekend that he expected Vidal to stay in Turin, but it would have been a surprise had he claimed otherwise.

The links to Arsenal do have some intrigue. Vidal's agent is Fernando Felicevich, who represents Alexis Sanchez and helped the ex-Barcelona ace to clinch a move to The Emirates last summer.

The Guardian's report Juventus are set to sign Sami Khedira on a free transfer in the summer is a sign of increased competition Vidal will face in Turin for his place next season if he remains, or to take it more sensationally, a replacement.

Chilean newspaper La Nacion report that the case of Vidal to Arsenal is 'more than a typical rumour', but there was no concrete evidence of a deal.

They stated the only certainty was the midfielder is focused on the Champions League Final, and the upcoming Copa America.

Given Feler's claim will only be proven right one way or another when the tournament is over, this saga could run and run, as if Chile reach the final, which they are hosting, that would take us up until July 4.
