West Ham United co-owner David Gold has confirmed on Twitter that Modibo Maiga and Mauro Zarate will be part of the club’s pre-season plans.
The pair spent time on loan away from Upton Park last season, but could now be offered a chance by the club’s new manager, when he’s appointed, to revitalise their careers as West Ham players.
Maiga spent time on loan with FC Metz while Zarate was part of the Queens Park Rangers setup, which was relegated from the Premier League.
It’s only natural for club officials to ensure that all the players they own are present for pre-season training because it provides a chance for whoever the new manager is to review his squad.
The first key job for the Hammers is making sure they get that managerial appointment right.
Sam Allardyce wasn’t given a chance to show that he can develop the playing style of the team and the new boss coming in will be under pressure to ensure that the team gets into a good position by the time of the move to the Olympic Stadium.
Whether either returning striker will be part of those plans remains to be seen.
