Everton legend Ian Snodin has told the Liverpool Echo it wouldn’t surprise him if the club’s manager Roberto Martinez is reviewing a list of 12 potential signings.
Martinez has hinted that Everton are going to be active in the transfer market this summer and the Spaniard feels he’ll be looking to consolidate in a few key positions, giving himself plenty of options if he’s not able to sign his first choice targets.
“I know that the manager has a great network of scouts, fronted by Kevin Reeves, who will have been working all season on identifying targets,” he said.
“Roberto will have his target in mind and will have three or four per position. The manager has said he is potentially looking at four new arrivals, so he may have around 12 players on his list.”
Martinez needs to cover all of his angles and give himself different options because the Toffees aren’t in the same position as some of their rivals.
Everton can’t throw big money at every transfer they go for so the manager needs to be cleverer in terms of the sort of individuals he looks to bring to Goodison Park.
The scale of the list Snodin suggest Martinez has also shows how much work he’s going to have to do over the summer.
He could end up negotiating over 12 different players, which takes up time and it’s positive that the gaffer is giving himself plenty of space to work through all of the details with potential new players.
It will be interesting to see who Martinez opts to focus on once the list of potential signings has been whittled down.
