Elia has been on loan with Southampton since January, and the Dutch international has expressed an interest in making his stay in England a longer one.
However, the Saints have still not commented on whether they want to snap him up on a permanent deal - with the club seemingly taking their time over making a decision on whether to sign the 28-year-old.
"For me there is no answer," he said. "I don’t know what is going to happen, so if it don’t, if I cannot stay here, they are looking forward and I also look forward. But if I can stay here it will be good."
Elia's loan spell at Southampton has been largely indifferent, with the wide-man displaying signs of the inconsistency that has followed him around in recent years.
Although the trickster has shown his class in some matches, in others he has been virtually anonymous and there are doubts over whether he would be a regular starter next season.
Elia could make a good back-up option for the side, though, and if he is available at a reasonable price, then Ronald Koeman may feel he is a worthwhile purchase.
Elia has made 17 appearances for Southampton so far, scoring twice during that time.
