Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a deal to sign Burnley's Kieran Trippier.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with adding to their defence by signing Burnley's Kieran Trippier.

The Mail report Spurs are at the front of the queue to sign the defender, who has a release clause in his contract at £3.5 million.

Trippier would be a bargain addition at that price, but for Tottenham his signing would ask more questions than it seemingly solves.

Spurs are not short at right-back, but signing Trippier would put England international Kyle Walker's place at risk. It would also lead to questions about the development of DeAndre Yedlin, with the USA star barely featuring since arriving at the club in January.

Eric Dier is also capable of playing at right-back too, so Spurs have depth; Trippier is a very interesting name to add to the mix.

He was a former Manchester City trainee, and left to pursue first team football, where he was able to carve out a reputation in the Championship as one of the best players outside the division before he helped Burnley get promoted.

Trippier played in all 38 games for Sean Dyche's Burnley this season, and can claim to be more battle-hardened as a result of a campaign with the now relegated strugglers.

His potential arrival has split fans, with a real mixed reaction. Here is a look at reaction on Twitter...
