Roberto Martinez: I want four additions at Everton this summer

Everton are set to strengthen their squad considerably over the coming months.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has told the Liverpool Echo that he is aiming to make three or four additions this summer.

The Toffees have had a disappointing campaign, where they have finished in 11th position in the Premier League, and Martinez knows that he needs to add quality to his squad.

Everton will be expected to climb back into contention for a European place next season and the Spanish boss is already drawing up a list of potential targets.

“I’m sure it will be a busy summer,” he said. “If you look around I’m sure every team will try to improve and make signings with the new TV deal around the corner. I do expect a lot of movement.

“We need continuity and want to carry on with our experienced players and the youngsters who have assumed good roles, but that the three or four players we bring in can adapt to what’s needed in the dressing room.”

The Toffees have one of the strongest squads in the top-flight and their final position this season does not reflect the quality that they have at their disposal.

Everton have class throughout their team, but they will be looking to add depth over the summer - as their lack of cover has been exposed at times this season.

The Toffees’ commitments in the Europa League seemed to negatively impact on their league form, but they will be able to compete without that distraction next term.

It means that there is reason to believe that Martinez's side will be able to improve next year and the Toffees boss will be hoping that his summer recruitment drive helps to push his team up the table.
