Andre Wisdom has been handed a new contract at Liverpool, the club have confirmed on their official website.
The 'long-term' deal commits the 22-year-old Leeds born defender to the club until 2019.
Veteran centre-back Kolo Toure was also signed to a one-year extension, but it is Wisdom's contract which creates the most intrigue.
The former England under-21 international has been on loan at West Brom this season, where he had mixed success, making 22 starts under Alan Irvine, but failing to kick on when he was replaced by Tony Pulis.
Wisdom ended the season out of the side, and did not make a start for the Baggies since late January, falling out of favour.
The Mail reported earlier this month that despite his omission at West Brom, Brendan Rodgers had pencilled in Wisdom as his first choice next season, keen for Emre Can to revert to midfield.
The defender being granted a long-term deal has provoked a mixed response among Liverpool fans, with some encouraged but others dismayed after his lack of success at The Hawthorns.
Here is a look at the reaction...
Not entirely sure Andre Wisdom merits a new contract after failing to impress at West Brom. #LFC— MandzukicHeader (@MandzukicHeader) May 26, 2015
As for Wisdom, think his new contract means we won't sign a right-back this summer. Him, Manquillo and Flanagan when he returns. #LFC— Tom_LFC8 (@Tom_LFC8) May 26, 2015
When Toure concentrates he's a reliable 4th choice CB. We have no right backs currently so need Wisdom, we'll probably sign another. #LFC— Mo (@Moelbongo) May 26, 2015
Wisdom and Toure signed today. I smell a tilt at the title coming on! #LFC— Ryan (@RyanHindle) May 26, 2015
So despite not being able to get in Pulis' WBA side at CB or RB #LFC's answer to our massive RB problem is Andre Wisdom?! Whats happening?!— StevieGpool (@Tony_The_Red) May 26, 2015
Relaxed over Andre Wisdom signing, even if he doesn't make the top level / regular 1st team #lfc locking him in makes good business sense!— Liverpool FC (@LFCblogster) May 26, 2015
