Marcelo Bielsa's long-term assistant has left Marseille, could this spark the Argentine boss leaving France for England?
Only managers of Marcelo Bielsa's status command the same transfer gossip as the top players. It is still up in the air whether or not he will stay at Olympique de Marseille next season, with the Argentine boss linked by the Mirror with replacing Sam Allardyce at West Ham United.
One sign that he may leave France this summer could be determined by his assistant Javier Torrente.
L’Equipe are reporting that he has accepted a two-year contract with Colombian club Once Caldas as their head coach, ending his tenure with Bielsa.
He joined as part of his back room staff last summer, but had previously spent eight years with El Loco at America Mexico, Velez Sarsfield, Espanyol and the Argentine national team.
Before Bielsa accepted the job last summer, one of the sticking points of the deal was the selection of his staff. Torrente's exit could be the beginning of the end for the former Athletic Bilbao coach.
Marseille’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, plus the fact they are about to lose a number of key players this summer, could convince Bielsa there are better jobs out there.
