If Tottenham sign Kieran Trippier will DeAndre Yedlin be used on the wing?

What could Tottenham Hotspur's reported interest in a Burnley player mean for one of their more recent additions?

According to a report from the Telegraph earlier this week, Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a £3.5million move for Burnley right-back Kieran Trippier.

At first glance, the alleged move makes little sense, with Tottenham already in possession of two natural right-backs – Kyle Walker and DeAndre Yedlin – and another defender who is more than comfortable playing that role in the form of Eric Dier.

With that much strength in depth, a move for the 24-year-old seems somewhat strange, but not if Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has other plans for Yedlin.

While Trippier’s move is yet to go through and remains a rumour at this stage, if he does arrive at White Hart Lane it could be the clearest sign yet that Yedlin is destined to feature further up the field for Tottenham.

After all, with Trippier potentially being brought in to compete with Walker, that would leave Yedlin to play on the right wing, where his blistering pace could be utilised to brilliant effect.

The USA international can certainly feature there and with Tottenham’s current wide players not impressing on a regular basis, there is every chance Pochettino will try something different next season.

Yedlin’s pace really does have to be seen to be believed and if he can work on his end product he could yet become one of the most effective wingers in the Premier League.

If that is Tottenham’s plan for him, it is one well worth keeping an eye on.
