Gary Gardner: Fabian Delph is never satisfied at Aston Villa

Aston Villa youngster Gary Gardner has piled the praise onto Tim Sherwood's captain Fabian Delph.

Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner has piled the praise onto teammate Fabian Delph, with a positive assessment of the skipper on the club’s website.

Delph has been a key figure throughout the season as Villa secured their Premier League safety and he’ll be a key individual looking ahead to the FA Cup final this weekend.

“I have always rated Fabian and he's justifying my faith with some absolutely outstanding performances in our midfield. He's one of the very best midfielders in the Premier League,” he said.

“He's got a drive and determination to be the very best player he can be. He always wants to improve. He's never satisfied.”

“Off the field, he's a top lad. He's a great guy. He's the skipper and he certainly commands the respect of those around him.”

Delph has seen his popularity at the club increase substantially after he decided to sign a new contract at Villa Park, when he could have taken the option of pushing for a move away.

He’ll be as relieved as anyone that the club stayed up but his focus will now be on beating Arsenal, before doing whatever he can as Tim Sherwood’s captain to ensure that the team have a more comfortable campaign next season.

If he can continue to lead by example and encourage those around him to benefit from his positive attitude, then Villa should start to get themselves into a much better position.

However, it’s important that Sherwood encourages every player in his squad to improve and develop, which in turn will help to take a little bit of the pressure away from Delph in the coming months.
