With another Premier League season over, it is time to consider those players who impressed despite what will be deemed disappointing campaigns for their clubs.
The Danish international added goals to his repertoire this season, while the Brazilian scored some absolutely beauties for Brendan Rodgers’ side, and while Eriksen started well before tailing off, Coutinho’s form took the opposite trajectory.
So both players impressed, but who had the better individual league campaign?
In terms of passing accuracy, the Tottenham player comes out on top, with his 82 per cent slightly better than Coutinho’s 80 per cent.
Eriksen also scored twice as many league goals as his Liverpool counterpart although it was Coutinho who provided more assists.
Eriksen’s average of 2.21 key passes per league game for Tottenham is impressive by anyone’s standards but it was the Liverpool player who impressed more when it came to on-target shooting accuracy, duels won, forward passes and the number of times he lost possession.
Both players have done well this season and there is no doubt Tottenham and Liverpool have stars who possess all the attributes to ultimately be among the best in Europe.
But something suggests that Coutinho could be on the verge of greatness if he can channel his talent and play consistently next season.
