Agent: Ex-Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez to replace Ancelotti at Real Madrid

The outgoing Italian manager’s representative has revealed that the Napoli boss is Madrid bound.

Real Madrid’s trophy-less season has resulted in the Spanish capital city club parting company with Carlo Ancelotti, with the Italian boss given his marching orders by president Florentino Perez this week.

The former Chelsea manager led the Santiago Bernabeu outfit to the Champions League last season, but has paid the price for falling behind perennial rivals Barcelona both domestically and on the continent.

With Los Blancos already haven started the search for Ancelotti’s replacement, one name seems to be emerging as the overwhelming frontrunner.

According to Marca, Ancelotti’s agent Ernesto Bronzetti has revealed that former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is “99 per cent” sure to be the new manager at Madrid.

The Spanish coach is currently at Serie A side Napoli, but is widely expected to leave the Stadio San Paolo after missing out on Champions League qualification this season due to inconsistent form.

Although some Liverpool fans would welcome Benitez back at Anfield, while others have not forgiven him for his stint at Chelsea, it appears that he is thoroughly in the running to take over at Real Madrid.
