West Brom fans react on Twitter as Pepe Mel's Betis are promoted

The Real Betis boss was in charge of the Baggies last season.

In the end, it worked out well for both West Brom and Pepe Mel after the Midlands side parted company with the Spaniard at the end of last season.

Mel enjoyed a brief spell at the Hawthorns and plenty didn't go his way while he was in charge at West Brom. But the Baggies stayed up and have done so again this season.

Interestingly, West Brom's immediate choice to replace their former manager went the same way. Things weren't quite right under Alan Irvine and in came Tony Pulis.

When push came to shove, the Midlands side survived comfortably. But Mel has also come out of leaving West Brom with plenty of credit. Indeed, his Real Betis side secured promotion to La Liga on Sunday afternoon - and the Baggies faithful were quick to congratulate him on Twitter.

Unlike most managers, Mel has followed the examples of Carlo Ancelotti, Ronald Koeman and Gary Monk by actually being on the social networking site himself. And that gave West Brom fans the opportunity to personally congratulate him.

The general theme was that the Spaniard is a kind and passionate man who deserves success. Here's how supporters reacted to news of his promotion:
