Ji-Sung Park says new Manchester United signing Memphis Depay can become the ‘best player in the world’

Manchester United legend Ji-Sung Park believes his former PSV Eindhoven teammate Memphis Depay can become the ‘best player in the world’ at Old Trafford.

Memphis Depay is set to become a Manchester United player when the transfer window opens next month after passing a medical, per the M.E.N.

The young Dutchman has starred in a title winning PSV Eindhoven side this season, scoring 22 league goals from wide midfield. At just 21-years-old, Depay has his best years ahead of him and has the potential to be a star at United.

Depay knows United boss Louis van Gaal well, having worked with him with Holland and will have no problems settling in alongside Dutch teammates Robin van Persie and Daley Blind next season.

The Red Devils have been stuck for ideas at times this season but Depay’s directness and creativity will change all that. He shoots on sight and is a dribbling machine, having completed 80 take-ons in the Eredivisie this season.

Although Depay does need to work on his decision making in the final third to live up to his ridiculous potential, United have bought themselves a hungry and motivated star in the making.

Former United midfielder and ex-teammate of Depay, Ji-Sung Park believes that the 21-year-old has the motivation and the ability to surpass all expectations at Old Trafford.

He told the club’s official website, “He’s still a young player – only 21-years-old – but I played with him and he has so much potential: he has strength, passing ability and skill.

“Some people say he’s like Cristiano Ronaldo and I can imagine that – he really has the desire to be the best player and United can help him achieve that. It’s a really good signing for both him and the club, and I’m sure he’ll show his quality for us.”

Having played alongside Depay, Park is well placed to comment on his potential, meaning United fans can start getting excited about the player they have acquired.

Depay will get to showcase his attributes in the Champions League next season, after United secured Van Gaal’s objective in his first season of a top four finish in the Premier League. Park thinks it was absolutely vital that they only had one year out of the competition.

He continued, “It has been painful for me not to see United in the Champions League but now we have to look forward and prepare well for next season’s competition.

“It was our first aim to finish in the top four after the disappointment of last season and we’ve done that. We’ve performed very well in some games this season, so hopefully we can build on that.”
