Three photos which sum up emotional roller coaster Mike Ashley underwent on Sunday

St James Park

Newcastle United defeated West Ham United 2-0 at St. James’ Park on Sunday to secure Premier League survival.

Newcastle United have retained their Premier League status for next season.

The Magpies defeated West Ham United 2-0 at home on Sunday to finish 15th in the league table with 39 points from 38 matches, just four points above the relegation zone.

After a goalless first half at St. James’ Park, France international midfielder Moussa Sissoko headed John Carver’s side in the lead in the 54th minute.

Then with just five minutes of normal time remaining, Argentine midfielder Jonas Gutierrez made it 2-0 for the home team.

It was not a straightforward win for Newcastle, with the team missing two glorious chances that could have come back to haunt them.

Emmanuel Riviere was guilty of one of those misses in the opening minutes of the second half when he failed to connect with Daryl Janmaat's cross from six yards out.

Then with Newcastle 1-0 up, Vernon Anita wasted an easy opportunity to double the lead when he decided to pass instead of shooting on goal with just the goalkeeper to beat.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley was at the game on Sunday, and the three photos below show the different emotions he underwent over the course of the 90 minutes.
