The Preston boss has got the best out of the Leeds target.
Beckford was recently released by Bolton Wanderers and Grayson wants to keep the 31-year-old at Deepdale next season.
However, Leeds United are also targeting a move for the now free agent, who also used to play for the Yorkshire side.
And it's former Leeds boss Grayson who could be the man to stop Leeds getting their summer target.
He told reporters after his side's League One play-off final victory: "He knows how I work and I know how he works. He’s a goalscorer and he’s enjoying his football. When he enjoys his football that’s when you get the best out of him.
"I’ve got a special relationship with him and, at the moment, he’s producing the goods for us."
Beckford himself hinted at his deep 'respect and appreciation' for how he and the Preston boss work alongside one another - and look where that got him on Sunday afternoon, with the 31-year-old netting another hat-trick for the Deepdale outfit.
Naturally, the striker's relationship with Grayson will prove a huge stumbling block to any potential Leeds move - especially now that Preston are back in the Championship.
Some fans, though, feel that 'special relationship' is exactly why the Whites should not move to bring the forward back to Elland Road, as his biggest success comes under Grayson, with very mixed results under any other boss.
