Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson feels it is important that Chelsea bring in another striker this summer and has pinpointed Christian Benteke as the best suited option out there.
In his debut Premier League season, plagued with injury, Diego Costa scored 20 goals in the Premier League. The 20th came from the spot on Sunday in a 3-1 victory over Sunderland.
Christian Benteke, on the other hand, was not in scoring form until Paul Lambert got the sack at Villa Park. The appointment of Tim Sherwood has heralded an impressive return to form for the Belgian striker who could still end the season with an FA Cup winner's medal.
Merson questions whether Loic Remy is up to the required standard just 24 hours after scoring two for the Stamford Bridge outfit and spending the season as a bit-part player.
"Benteke ticks all the boxes," Merson told Sky Sports.
"That is the one position they definitely need, especially with Drogba going.
“I don’t think Remy is that good. If you played Remy for 10 games I don’t think they would win the league.
“I think the way Benteke plays he could come in for Costa like-for-like. Does he not go there because he won’t play?
"Well, there’s going to be a lot of football matches next season for Chelsea there are going to be four trophies - you have got the Premier League, FA Cup, Capital One Cup and the Champions League.”
It is worth noting that Chelsea will be in for same amount of potential trophies as this season.
The one thing Benteke and Costa share in common is their physical presence and having both in your squad gives you real depth up front.
Chelsea are at a stage now that they don't necessarily need to go out and worry about buying better starting players. They have enough currently to go out next season and win the Premier League again but strengthening the squad will only bolster that.
