Mousa Dembele impresses for Tottenham against Everton

Taking a closer look at the latest performance of a Tottenham Hotspur player who has not featured as much as he should have in recent times.

Tottenham Hotspur finished the season in fifth position in the Premier League, after Harry Kane scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory against Everton.

While the England international added to his impressive tally, another Tottenham player also did well in the form of Mousa Dembele.

The Belgian international has been used sparingly in recent times, but he started for the first time in 10 league matches this weekend, and showed what he is capable of with a fine if relatively brief contribution.

Dembele played 53 minutes against Everton before Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino replaced him with summer signing Benjamin Stambouli. But prior to his departure, the 27-year-old had done enough to suggest he should be used more at White Hart Lane.

In slightly less than an hour on the pitch, Dembele was dispossessed just once, while his passing accuracy of 93 per cent was good by anyone’s standards.

The Tottenham midfielder also played two key passes to set up goal-scoring chances for others and he had one shot of his own.

He also won seven duels and one tackle and he recovered the ball on three occasions.

Dembele divides opinion among Tottenham fans, but on Sunday he impressed, and if he remains at the club beyond the summer, he deserves more chances to show just how good he can be under Pochettino.
