Frustrated Newcastle fans react on Twitter to rare Mike Ashley interview

The Newcastle United owner spoke about his plans for the future - but many supporters didn't buy it.

Sunday afternoon brought about a fantastic occasion to end a miserable season for Newcastle. The Magpies beat West Ham United 2-0, secured their Premier League status and saw Jonas Gutierrez complete his fairytale story of beating cancer to return to professional football.

But what maybe took the shine off a great day for Newcastle was owner Mike Ashley doing a rare television interview before the game.

In it, Ashley stated that he wouldn't sell the club until it won something and promised to invest hugely in the playing squad this summer.

On paper, those were fine claims. The problem for Newcastle fans, however, is that they will have to see it to believe it. And many were far from impressed or convinced on Twitter in response to the interview.

Who will take charge as manager at St James' Park next season? Who will be brought in to bolster the playing squad? And how much will Ashley really spend on Tyneside?

It will take a huge amount of work to consign a campaign like this one to the history books but at least Newcastle have done the very minimum of what was required from them in staying up.

Here's what supporters said about Ashley's interview on social media...
