Ajax director laughs at question regarding Celtic transfer target Mitchell Dijks

Marc Overmars has laughed off the suggested wage Ajax will pay Dijks if they get him this summer.

Willem II left-back Mitchell Dijks is certainly looking like a player with plenty of interest in his services this summer.

One team keen on his signature is Celtic.

The Scotsman linked Celtic with a £900k move for the Dutch left-back at the start of the month. Dijks, who can also play at centre-back, has played 27 times in Eredivisie this season.

However Celtic are not alone in their pursuit. Dutch rivals Feyenoord and Ajax are also said to be in contact.

Recently Ajax have to the fore as the favourites to sign him.

It was reported by De Telegraaf last week that Ajax had held talks with the player about a potential return to Amsterdam.

The report claimed that Dijks could return to Ajax, with whom he played six games between 2012 and 2014, on a deal until 2018.

But a stumbling block seems to be the players wage demands.

According to Voetbal Primeur Ajax technical director Marc Overmars has laughed off the reported salary that the Celtic target is said to want at his old club. They report that Dijks reportedly wants to earn 700k euros a year to return to Amsterdam, which equates to about 13k euros a week.

It was a fee that the former Arsenal winger reportedly just laughed at, so Dijks is clearly not getting the payment he wants at the club, or indeed those figures are not entirely accurate. Either way, it appears that Ajax will not be paying that fee.
