Liverpool were supposed to give Steven Gerrard a good send off today. It was the club legend's final game for the club before heading off to LA Galaxy, but it certainly did not go according to plan.
Liverpool were absolutely thumped at the Britannia Stadium by a Stoke City side with nothing to play for. The score at full-time was 6-1, it could have been more.
In the run up to the game there has of course been plenty said about Raheem Sterling. The attacker looks set to leave the club this summer, after rejecting a deal to stay at Liverpool. His agent then made comments in the press which have ostracized the England international from the Liverpool faithful.
Not that he looked overly bothered about it today. He was all smiles before the game, after being dropped to the bench by Brendan Rodgers - even though he received a barrage of abuse from the travelling support.
In the end Sterling did not make it onto the pitch, he sat on the bench throughout, and it may be he will never play for Liverpool again.
After watching that performance from his team-mates, he'll be glad.
