Nir Bitton makes it clear he wants to stay at Celtic for the long term

One of Celtic's key players this season has explained how happy he is at the club.

Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton has been speaking to the Daily Record about the recent transfer speculation linking him with a move away from the Bhoys.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has enjoyed a brilliant campaign under manager Ronny Deila and he is now one of the first names on the team-sheet.

Celtic fans are seeing a quality player develop before their eyes and they will no doubt be pleased with the Israel international’s latest comments regarding his future.

“I’m really happy here,” Bitton said. “I’m here two seasons; my wife is happy, I’m happy. We just need to do something with the weather!

“I have two more years but if I have the option to sign a new contract, why not? We haven’t talked yet, but I want to stay.”

That is great news for all involved with Celtic, with Bitton’s recent form suggesting he could become one of the best defensive midfielders not just in Scotland but potentially in Europe.

He showed glimpses of that in the clashes with Inter Milan earlier this season and given his age and his passion for Celtic, it would be no surprise if the club’s hierarchy did sit him down to discuss a new deal sooner rather than later.

After all, 62 matches into his Celtic career and it seems the only way is up for Bitton.
