Given his great form in France, surely the only chance Leeds United have of tempting Max Gradel back to the club is if they return to the top flight.
Max Gradel will always be a fan favourite among Leeds United supporters, even if those hoping for a reunion with their former star are likely to be disappointed.
The Ivorian featured 82 times for Leeds, scoring 25 goals and setting up an additional 15 before he moved on. But this season – or more specifically the second half of this season – the 27-year-old has turned things up a notch.
Prior to Gradel’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, he had played 18 Ligue 1 matches for Saint-Etienne, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
So when he headed off on international duty, few would have expected him to return not just in better form, but in what can only be described as scintillating form.
In the 13 league games Gradel has featured in since returning from the AFCON, the former Leeds star has scored a remarkable 13 goals, including braces in consecutive matches against Evian and Guingamp.
So yes, Leeds fans may well want to see Gradel back in their colours before he hangs up his boots, but considering his end-of-season form there are likely to be plenty of suitors keen to take him if he does move on.
If Leeds make it back into the top flight under new manager Uwe Rosler, then perhaps the winger could still return to Elland Road, but for now, he is one to reminisce over rather than link with an imminent return.
