Juventus chief comments on Arturo Vidal's future amid Liverpool transfer reports

Liverpool face an uphill battle to sign Arturo Vidal from Juventus.

Surprise reports linking Arturo Vidal with a summer move to Liverpool have been slapped down by Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta.

The midfielder has been a key part of the side which has won the Serie A and Coppa Italia this season, and could clinch a treble by beating Barcelona in the Champions League Final.

The Metro and The Express, both increasingly unreliable in terms of accuracy in reporting transfer news, both claimed Liverpool were weighing up an offer of £25 million.

Marotta has now moved to quell speculation Vidal will be moving on, reported by Tuttomercatoweb to have addressed his future at a press conference on Saturday.

He said: "Vidal? He has a contract with us and will surely remain in Turin."

Marotta also made a point of saying teammate Paul Pogba will be staying at the club, describing him as 'unsellable'.

If Vidal were to have been available, Liverpool would have faced fierce competition for his services.

The Chilean international was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United last summer, reported SkySports, and is regarded as one of the most complete central midfielders in football.

Liverpool do not have Champions League football to offer next season, and their task to convince this year's finalist would have been a steep one.
