Liverpool were humiliated 6-1 by a rampant Stoke City side at the Britannia Stadium.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has branded Liverpool’s disappointing 6-1 defeat at Stoke City 'unacceptable' as he took to social media site Twitter to vent his disapproval.
The Reds travelled to Stoke City having won their last three matches against the Potters, including that memorable 5-3 thriller in Staffordshire 15 months ago.
Unfortunately for Brendan Rodgers, his side couldn’t rely on the sheer brilliance of Luis Suarez and the attacking intuitions of Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling on Sunday and it ultimately told.
The visitors looked laboured from the off whereas Mark Hughes’s side were relentless, breaching the Reds backline with alarming regularity, resulting in the hosts netting five unanswered first-half goals.
Astoundingly, it was the first time in their Premier League history that the Merseysiders had conceded five times during the first-half, an unwanted record Carragher labels completely unacceptable.
Embarrassing day for all connected with Lfc 6-1 is not acceptable. Not seen anything but my son left at half time so it must've been bad!!— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) Mayo 24, 2015
Despite improvements in the second period, Brendan Rodgers’ side saw the Midlands side strike again three minutes from time condemning them to their heaviest league defeat in 52 years.
It tops off a miserable season at Anfield, and one in which Rodgers must take a large share of the responsibility as a number of his summer transfers have failed to work out.
If the Northern Irishman’s future wasn’t in doubt before the match, it certainly is now as such a defeat can leave players questioning the ideals of their boss and the possibility of him turning it around.
